THAWS is a reimagined version of the JAWS movie poster that uses visual storytelling to raise awareness about climate change. I wanted to highlight ocean pollution and global warming by replacing the shark with a pile of plastic and the swimmer with a polar bear on melting ice. The new title, THAWS, reflects the rising temperatures and the growing environmental threat. My goal was to draw attention to a serious issue by using a familiar pop culture reference. This Photoshop project let me explore how design can spark awareness while staying visually impactful.
Sketches
I started with a rough sketch to map out the composition and make sure it echoed the original JAWS movie poster layout. This helped me plan where to place the polar bear, the pile of plastic, and the title. I gathered various stock images, which i edited and combined in Photoshop. These elements were carefully selected and edited in Adobe Photoshop to build a cohesive and dramatic scene.
Final
The finished poster keeps to iconic layout of the JAWS movie poster but flips the narrative to focus on environmental changes. By replacing the shark with plastic waste and the swimmer with a malnourished polar bear, I wanted to show how climate change is a real threat to our environment. Using Photoshop, I utilized clipping masks, blending techniques, and adjustment layers to create a dramatic look. The title THAWS ties it all together, shifting the meaning and message.
